The corridor Ourense-Vigo is a 54 km long transverse connection axis of the line Madird-Ourense-Santiago de Compostela and the Atlantic line that runs between A Coruña and Vigo. The section O Carballiño-O Irixo is part of that axis, it has a length of 10.9 Km of electrified double-track high speed line (300-350 Km/h), with international gauge, for passengers’ transportation.
The section O Carballiño-O Irixo connects with the Ourense-Santiago High Speed Line at North of the town of O Carballino, by means of two single-track links. It runs through mountainous terrain which in addition to the environmental sensitivity of the environment requires the execution of four tunnels of lengths comprised between 2.1 and 2.4 Km and five mayor viaducts between 92 and 1,015 meters long. It also requires of an important earth movement, with nearly two million m³ of excavation and nearly one million m3 of fillings.
