The creation of Beterem goes back to the beginning of the 1960s in Marseille, a time when the French public investment organization, the Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations, was setting up development and construction companies in order to tackle a sizeable housing programme in France.
As part of this, Beterem carried out town planning and infrastructure surveys in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur and Languedoc-Roussillon regions for many years. At the end of 1998, the management bought out the company's building engineering branch, along with an identical planning department established in the Rhône-Alpes.
From this, a holding company called the "Beterem Groupe" was created, made up of the "Beterem Ingénerie" and "Beterem RAC" (Rhône-Alpes-Centre) companies, followed in 2002 by Beterem SI in the Paris region, and Beterem Maintenance in Aix-en-Provence.
In May 2011, the regional Company Barel & Pelletier was selected from among 5 companies that submitted bids for the design & realization of a new hospital in Rumilly.
